Ponmudi (The Golden Peak) is a hill station in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala and is located 61 km north-east of Trivandrum city at an altitude of 1100 m. It is a part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea. A narrow winding road offering scenic views on the way to Ponmudi. Climate is pleasant year-round. One of the attractions is Tea gardens near by .

Accommodation :- Hotel Golden Peak (KTDC) in the upper sanitarium, is the only resort available for stay in Ponmudi.Due to its proximity to the main city of Thiruvanthapuram and lack of accommodation options tourists usually prefer to stay in the city and make a one day trip to Ponmudi though the early morning Winter season offers the best scenery.

Nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport – 71 Kms. Nearest railway station is Trivandrum Central – 63 kms.Main bus terminal: Thiruvananthapuram, about 63 km



Nearest Bus Stations Nedumangad and Vithura. KSTRC buses to Ponmudi from either Thiruvananthapuram (Thampanoor) or from Nedumangad. KSERC operates daily bus service from Trivandrum to Ponmudi, (some of the services go up to upper sanitorium), usually takes up to 4 hours to reach(one way). There are chances sometimes to disrupt the bus services sometimes by landslides and bad condition of roads.It is an advengre game for bike racing.

Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary: This sanctuary spread over 53 sq. km. in the Western Ghats is accessible from Vithura. With its rich flora and fauna, Peppara dotted with hillocks and forests is a great attraction for wildlife enthusiasts.


Koyikkal Palace, Nedumangad: This ancient palace dates back to the 15th century. Museums of folklore and numismatics are its major attractions, besides the traditional architecture and layout of the palace.


The Folklore Museum here is a treasure trove of quaint musical instruments, occupational implements, household utensils, models of folk art etc. Displayed in the Koyikkal Palace, they focus attention on the cultural background of the State


In the Numismatics Museum housed in the palace, one can see coins belong to different parts of the world as well as to different eras. The rare and historically valuable collection of coins gives an insight into the trade relations of the State. Among the exhibits is the most valuable Indian coin - the 2500-year-old Karsha and Rasi, as also the world's smallest coins.


On the way to Koyikkal Palace one can take deviation to visit the Aruvikkara Dam which supplies drinking to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The dam site offers excellent panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

Pazhasurama Temple Parashurama is the sixth avatar of Vishnu and belongs to the Second Age, and is the son of a Brahmin father Jamadagni and mother Renuka in Hindu mythology. Vellayani Lake Vellayani Lake is a fresh water lake, which is located in the Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. Covering an area of 7.5 sq km, this lake is the largest freshwater lake in Thiruvananthapuram District. Many people visit this lake during moonlit nights.

Marine Aquarium Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium, which was established in 1997, is situated at Vizhinjam, which is an important fishing port in Kerala. This aquarium showcases the rarest species of invertebrates and ornamental fish in the world. Managed by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), this aquarium houses crabs, squirrelfish, moon wrasse, clownfish and butterfly fish.

Visitors to the aquarium can also see lionfish, giant turtles, surgeonfish, triggerfish, piranhas and sharks.

Vizhinjam Fishing Harbor Vizhinjam Beach was originally a commercial centre for the Europeans, Portuguese and the Dutch, who used to trade with the native kings. This beach is situated 4.7 km away from Kovalam, in the coastal town of Vizhinjam. Vizhinjam Beach serves as a major sea port area. The area around the beach is dotted with several Ayurvedic treatment centres, where Ayurvedic massages and treatments are available.

Poovar Poovar is a small coastal village in the Trivandrum district of Kerala state, south India. This village is almost at the southern tip of Trivandrum and there is only one last village Pozhiyoor which mark the end of kerala. This village has a beautiful beach which attracts tourists.
